International Languages Aotearoa New Zealand (ILANZ) administers a range of international education and exchange programmes on behalf of the New Zealand Ministry of Education, principally in support of the teaching and learning of international languages (Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Spanish).

The programmes administered by ILANZ also receive significant support from:

  • The Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China
  • The Embassy of France
  • The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Goethe-Institut
  • The Embassy of Japan and The Japan Foundation
  • The Spanish Ministry of Education

ILANZ offers professional leadership in the teaching of International Languages through the National Languages Advisers. These advisers work with teachers of their language by:

  • assisting with the development of languages programmes and policies in schools.
  • assisting with professional development for people teaching International Languages.
  • offering advice on the selection and effective use of resources (including ICT) for the teaching of International Languages.
  • keeping up to date with what is happening, and sharing whatever knowledge, skills and experience they have.
  • assisting with developing professional networks within New Zealand and in other countries.
  • putting teachers in contact with other teams of advisers and with organisations that provide courses, programmes, exchanges and other support for teachers and students of International Languages.
  • offering ways to lift the profile of languages in your school and community.
  • offering advice and assistance to teachers wanting to develop language competence and cultural knowledge.

ILANZ administers a range of international programmes to support the teaching and learning of International Languages.

ILANZ also administers the Official International Educator Exchange Programme for one-year teacher exchanges with the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, the United States (Colorado only), and Denmark.
