Regional Educational Exchanges Programme (REX)
The programme is part of the New Zealand Japan Exchange Programme (NZJEP) and is supported by the Ministry of Education.
The programme is one whereby Japanese teachers are sent to English speaking countries to teach Japanese. Those selected to participate spend four months (April - July) at the Tokyo University of Foreign Languages on a special training course learning how to teach Japanese as a foreign language
The New Zealand Japan Exchange Programme, which is managed by International Languages Aotearoa New Zealand (ILANZ) on behalf of the Ministry of Education, provides an accommodation grant for the twenty months of the teacher’s stay as well as a setting-up allowance. Education authorities in both countries are required to sign an agreement outlining arrangements.
N.B. When schools apply it is important that they consider their commitment and responsibility in hosting a REX teacher for a 20 month period.
Who can apply from within New Zealand?
