CHINESE CORNER SCHOOL LIBRARY – sponsored by Hanban

Ten NZ schools have been set up with a 'Chinese Corner' full of resources from China.
This is to help solve the problem of the shortage of teaching and reading resources on Chinese culture and language. There has been around 300 books and videos donated from The Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban).

These resources are also to be shared with local schools offering Chinese in the area. Please view the lists below:books

Hands off Memory for Pronuciation (by Phillipa Doig, Wgtn Regional Adviser)

Hands off Memory works like this:

  • Print off the two grids and paste them back to back. Cut into cards.
  • Students play in groups of 3-4.

The cards have the pinyin words facing up. A student plays by choosing two cards by saying the two words – the next student in the circle turns over these two cards. If the pictures match, the student who chose them keeps that pair of cards. The student who is playing DOESN”T TOUCH THE CARDS. A student who wins a pair of cards can play again. Then it moves to the next person in the circle who chooses two cards. The next person in the circle turns the cards. The winner has the most pairs of cards at the end.
